Healing in Connection: Equine Therapy at Walk Intuit

At Walk Intuit, Equine Therapy is more than a modality—it’s a powerful, relational approach to healing. Whether you're seeking support for yourself, your family, your clients, or your treatment program, our trauma-informed, somatic Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) offers a transformative space to reconnect with the body, emotions, and the present moment.

Why Equine Therapy?

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy at Walk Intuit is a ground-based, experiential therapy that integrates the mind, body, and spirit. Sessions are facilitated by a licensed mental health professional and a trained equine specialist, and take place in the presence of our carefully selected therapy horses.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, equine therapy allows clients to engage in real-time experiences—such as leading a horse, navigating the herd, or practicing brushing with awareness. These experiences offer immediate, embodied feedback that reveal relational dynamics, internal patterns, and emotional states that may not surface in a traditional clinical setting.

Horses as Co-Therapists

Our herd plays an active role in every session—not as tools, but as sentient beings who help regulate the nervous system and mirror emotional realities. Horses are naturally attuned to the body language and energy of those around them. This sensitivity allows them to reflect our inner experiences with striking clarity and honesty, helping clients:

  • Develop emotional awareness

  • Build self-confidence and assertiveness

  • Recognize and shift behavioral patterns

  • Practice boundary-setting and co-regulation

  • Experience nervous system safety in relationship

As one of our clients recently said, “The horses knew what I was feeling before I could name it.”

Who We Serve

We work with a wide range of individuals, families, and groups—including:

  • Adolescents and adults navigating trauma, grief, anxiety, and depression

  • Families seeking more connected and attuned relationships

  • Teens and young adults learning emotional regulation and identity expression

  • Clients in treatment centers or intensive outpatient programs (IOPs)

  • Groups focused on team building, recovery, or personal growth

Our Equine Therapy is particularly impactful for treatment centers looking to offer their clients trauma-informed, somatic, and experiential therapy outside the clinical room. We collaborate closely with program staff to integrate EAP into broader treatment goals and modalities.
